“Who am I?” is a question we often find ourselves asking. If you’re not quite sure, don’t worry—you’re not alone. Thankfully, there are some tried-and-true ways to get to the heart of who you are.
Here are six questions to help you get to know yourself better:
What are your values?
Your values are the things that matter most to you. They guide your decisions and shape your actions. Identifying your values can help you live a more authentic and fulfilling life. Ask yourself: What do I believe in? What is important to me? What do I stand for? Chances are, whatever it was is one of your values.

What are your passions?
Your passions are the things that bring you joy and make you feel alive. They’re what you love doing for fun and what you’re naturally drawn to. Pursuing your passions can help you lead a more enjoyable and satisfying life. Ask yourself: What activities make me lose track of time? What would I do even if I wasn’t getting paid for it?
What are your strengths?
Your strengths are the things that come naturally to you and that you’re good at—the things people often compliment you on or ask for your help with. If you’re not sure what your strengths are, think about a time when someone complimented your work or thanked you for your help. Whatever it was they praised you for is likely one of your strengths.
Recognizing and using your strengths can help you be more successful in all areas of your life. Ask yourself: In what areas do I perform better than others? In what areas do I enjoy working hardest?
What are your weaknesses?
Your weaknesses are the things you struggle with or don’t enjoy doing as much as others might. Everyone has weaknesses, and they’re nothing to be ashamed of – they’re simply areas in which we need to grow or delegate to others. Accepting our weaknesses can help us become better people. Ask yourself: In what areas do I need improvement? In what areas do I become easily frustrated?
How do other people see me?
Ask yourself: How does my spouse/partner see me? How do my friends see me? How does my boss see me?”;. It’s important to get feedback from others about how they see us because we often have blind spots when it comes to ourselves. Our friends, family members, colleagues, and mentors can provide valuable insights into our personalities, habits, strengths, and weaknesses that we might not be aware of otherwise. This is important in getting to know yourself.
How do YOU see yourself?
Above all else, how do YOU see yourself? Not how other people see you or how do want other people to see you—but how do YOU see yourself? When it comes down to it, that’s really all that matters. So ask yourself: who am I, really? The answer may just surprise you!
