Have you ever felt no one really cares about you, your background, your ideas, your business, your challenges, your dreams…
As sad as this may sound, it is true. No one really cares but everyone cares about something. Do you know what it is?
Take a look at these two papers, if you were to choose among these which would it be? the money?
If I squeezed the money, would you still choose it? Why is that?
I asked a group of professionals and they said it’s because of its value over the plain paper.
It became clear that everyone cares about what’s of value and their values.
Value, as defined in the Oxford dictionary, is the importance or worth of something or someone.
Whereas values are principles or standards behind ones’ judgment of what is important in life.
They form our core, give our existence a sense of meaning, guide our actions, behaviors and form our personalities.
In 1998, Netflix emerged competing against Blockbuster who was then the undisputed champion of the video rental industry.
Flash forward to 2010, Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy while Netflix grew exponentially serving customers worldwide.
One might wonder why Netflix succeeded where Blockbuster failed. However, it all comes down to one thing – Value Netflix offered to its customers.
Likewise in relationships, friendships that fail. most times it’s because either one of the persons involved went against the other one’s values, stopped adding value and isn’t valuable to them anymore.
When an employer hires a qualified candidate for a job, they look out for the value that an individual could bring into the company not just their skillset.
People care less about your business, service, product, your idea, friendship, rather they care more about the value you offer and how you make them feel.
To become a person of value in the society, at home, at work you must do as Albert Einstein said,
“Try not to become a person of success but try to become a person of value.”
A person who brings hope, laughter, joy, inspiration, empowers, provides a solution to a problem, a person who helps others grow, reach their goals, overcome challenges, and become better… A person who cares about the values of others,
No one really cares until you are a person of value.
So I ask you, do you care enough to become a person of value?
